This book tells the life story of Al-Jahiz—Amr ibn Bahr ibn Mahbub al-Kinani—one of the great masters of literature, poetry, and knowledge in the Abbasid age. He left behind 350 books and treatises in the sciences of his time and created for Arabic a unique style of artistic prose. He also wrote an important book in zoology, becoming the first Arab pioneer of this science.
