Egyptian writer, man of letters, and physician. He worked in psychiatry, then left medical practice and became a science editor at the Kuwaiti magazine "Al-Arabi." He is one of the most important contemporary short-story writers, and he also wrote novels and literature for young adults and children. He introduced the first environmental literature section for children in "Al-Arabi Al-Saghir" magazine, which ran for fifteen years under the title "Our Earth Environment."
