Samir Gerges

He translated nearly forty works of modern literature from German, including "The Piano Teacher" by the Austrian writer Elfriede Jelinek (Nobel Prize 2004), "The Double Bass" by the German writer Patrick Süskind, and "Siddhartha" by Hermann Hesse (Nobel Prize 1946). Together with Reem Nagmi, he translated for children the book "Paula’s Journeys" by the well-known German writer Paul Maar. Dar El Shorouk also published his translations of Erich Kästner’s "The Animals’ Conference" and "Emil and the Detectives."

He received Arab and German awards in recognition of his translations, most recently the King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz International Award for Translation in the individual efforts category.
