Bahgat Osman

(1931–2001)

Egyptian illustrator and satirical writer. He studied sculpture at the Faculty of Fine Arts and was one of the leading masters of modern Egyptian caricature. His drawings were published in magazines such as "Rose al-Youssef" and "Sabah El Kheir," and he became famous in the 1980s for his caricature character "Bahgatos." He devoted himself to drawing and writing for children in books and Arab magazines such as "Samir" and "Majid." He dedicated much of his work to the rights of women and children; among his most notable contributions was illustrating the UNICEF Child Charter.
