Egyptian visual artist deeply concerned with authenticity and identity across all areas of his artistic creativity, from oil painting to illustrations for children in books and magazines, alongside his artistic experiments in puppet theatre and furniture design. He is one of the foremost masters of design and layout in publishing and journalism, and succeeded in expressing authenticity and identity using the latest modern means in printing and graphic design.
El Touni is considered one of the most important and famous Arab artists who established the art of designing and illustrating Arabic book and magazine covers. In his hands, cover design became an artwork inseparable from the content of the book, and his covers are works of art in their own right. He designed covers for various Arab publishing houses such as Dar El Shorouk, the Arab Institute for Research and Publishing, and Dar Al-Fata Al-Arabi.
Helmi El Touni belongs to a generation of Egyptian visual artists who believed in firm values at the heart of their artistic lives: social justice, Arab unity, resistance to domination, women’s equality, and the cause of Palestine. He designed a large number of resistance posters and prints.
El Touni wrote and illustrated many children’s books, and the coloring series "Long Ago" is among the most beloved coloring books for both children and adults.
