(1938–2008)
Egyptian professor of English literature, thinker, and sociologist. He authored numerous works in literary criticism, and his most important work is "The Encyclopedia of Jews, Judaism, and Zionism." He loved writing for children and considered children’s stories part of his larger intellectual project and an affirmation of Arab identity. Through them he sought to develop the art of storytelling in children’s literature. He had a daughter named Nour, a son named Yasser, and a grandson named Nadim; they are the heroes of his stories. He won the Best Writer award in the Suzanne Mubarak Children’s Literature Competition in 1999 for the book "Nour and the Famous Tricky Wolf."
